Abstract In this thesis, a detailed procedure is presented for computing the·dynamic characteristics of transmission towers. A paramete~ic study is carried out to examine the dependence of these characteristics on various factors. The thesis is made up of five chapters and three appendices. Historical review of the subject is presented in chapter (1). Brief informations are given concerning types of towers, materials, construction, structural loads and methods of analysis. The main objectives of the thesis are outlined in this chapter. Th~ method of analysis is presented i~ Chapter (2). The analysis is based on the direct element method for space trUss analysis. In chapter (3) the natural frequencies and mode shapes are computed from the study of the free vibration of the tower. Comparisons are made with previous· work to verify the accuracy of the present work. In Chapter (4) , a parar.ete r.i.cstudy presented to show the dependence of the vibration characteristics on various tower parameters. The main conclusions of . . this work is presented in Chapter (5). |
