Abstract Objective: To determine whether transforming growth factor ß1 (TGFß1) gene nucleotide T869C (codon 10) polymorphism is associated with the development and/or severity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: 30 RA patients & 20 healthy age and sex matched subjects are tested for TGFB1 (T869C) polymorphism using Polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Results: The TT (leu-leu) genotype frequency was significantly higher in cases 11/30 (36.7%) as compared to the control group 4/20 (20.0%) (P=0.005). Conclusion: The TT (leu-leu) genotype might be one of the genetic risk factors of RA. Key words: Transforming growth factor ß1, Rheumatoid arthritis, gene polymorphism. |
