Abstract Giardia lamblia is one of the most prevalent parasitic protozoa of humans. It is of worldwide distribution. There is a considerable epidemiologic evidence that breast feeding protects against acute respiratory and gastrointestinal infections . The aim of the present-work was to detect specific anti-G_lardia_ antibodies ( IgA and IgG ) in the serum and milk of mothers infected with Giardia lamblia and to study its protective effect on their infants. The present study was carried out on 20 mothers with symptomatic giardiasis, without other parasites and breast feeding their infants. Twenty matched parasite-free mothers were taken as controls. |
