Abstract Food Industries are one of category the major water industrial polluters and their liquid wastes need large funds to be treated using standard mechanical and physicochemical treatments. The use of the partially treated effluents in land irrigation dedicated for cultivation of medicinal plants is one of the mains goals addressed by the developing countries to reduce the treatment costs save water and produce the highly needed medicinal derivatives used in pharmacology. The main objective of this research was to assess the reclamation of these wastes which is full of plants growth nutrients in cultivation medicinal and aromatic plants. Ocimum basilicum and Ruta gravealens were selected to this study for their medicinal importance as a main source for many drugs. Also they are used for many purposes. The plants were irrigated with the two liquid wastes under study, dairy waste generated by Misr dairy plant and Canning waste generated by Edfina canning company. Before utilizing these wastes, samples were collected from end of pipe waste, analyzed physically and Chemically and, Primary treated, then used for Ocimum and Ruta plants cultivation. This experiment was carried out in the two successive years 1992 and 1993, at the Experimental station of Floriculture and Ornamental Horticulture Department ,Faculty of Agriculture Alexandria university. |
