Abstract

Toxoplasma gondii is a parasite of world wide distribution, common in warm moist areas. In Egypt it was up to 29.2 among humans. In Alexandria, in 1989, the seropositivity was found to be as high as 54 among fishermen. Undercooked meat as well as food contaminated with eat’s faeoes are the principle souroes of acquired human infection. The aim of this work is to determine the prevalence rate of Toxoplasma infeotion among a sample of different types of slaughtered animals, and to determine the viability and infectivity of enoysted Toxoplasma of animal’s meat. Blood, and meat samples were collected from 160 animals, 10 sheep, 66 cattles, and 24 pigs. The indirect haemagglutination test was the serological test used. The fresh meat samples of the serologically positive 25 animal’s sera were digested, inoculated into 4 - mice for each positive sample.
