Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a wide prevalent common disease which affects not less than 15% of adult world population. Diabetes is a chronic disease which has many complications and its complications are time dependant i.e. the longer the duration of diabetes the more the complications. Many organs and tissues are affected by diabetes; the tongue is one of the organs which are affected by diabetes.
Hence, the aim of the present study was to study the effect of diabetes on the tongue papillae and to compare the mitotic indices of the different types of the tongue papillae (of normal and diabetic tongues) through histological, immunohistochemical, and image analysis investigations.
