Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate percentage of CD11b expression on neutrophils in the first 12 hours of life in preterm newborns with RDS as a marker of inflammation and an indicator and predictor of the severity, complications (especially BPD) and outcome of RDS. The study involved 90 neonates. The studied neonates were Preterm newborns <35 weeks gestational age admitted to the NICU during the first 12 hours of life. They had no sepsis as those who had suspected or proved neonatal sepsis were excluded from the study. The study group included 60 preterm infants with RDS diagnosed clinically and by chest X -ray (patient group).They had gestational age (31.36 ± 1.80) weeks, birth weigh (1.615 ± 0.344) Kg and male to female ratio (1:1.14) while, the control group included 30 preterm infants without RDS and apparently doing well with gestational age (33.63 ± 0.61) weeks, birth weight (1.985 ± 0.329) Kg and male to female ratio (1.14:1).
