Abstract The ciidelr spread use of contraceptive pills arid for long durations made it reasonable to evaluate and re—evaluate heir possible side effects on the various tissues and organs o the body. The histopathological and histochemical effects of contraceptive pills on the gingival tissues were studied in this work, Effect o± pregnancy on the gingiva was also studied as a sort of a physiologiai control, since the use o pills simulates a condition of pseudopregnancy. Experi— iental animals (guinea pigs) were also used to correlate the jfindings with those in the human cases, Two hundred human females of fertile age were used in this research. .Also 56 female guinea pigs were used.
