Abstract

The well-known adage that “seeing is believing” is no longer true due to the pervasive and powerful multimedia manipulation tools. Such development has decreased the credibility that multimedia data such used to have. To ensure trustworthiness, multimedia authentication techniques are being developed. The fact that an unlimited number of perfect copies can be illegally produced is a serious threat to the rights of content owners. A watermark carries a message containing information about the creator or distributor of the image, or even about the image itself There are several methods of image segmentation. Here the edge detection based techniques, sobel, prewitt and canny were discussed as well as two region based techniques ,the watershed algorithm and the multiscale morphological segmentation technique. They were thoroughly discussed and implemented for comparison of the results from all the presented methods.
Two different watermarking methods in the spatial and transform domain were presented. The first method in spatial domain was the least significant bit (LSB) modification which is used for authentication, the second method in the discrete wavelet transform domain(DWT) was spatio frequency masking. The results of both methods were presented. An attempt to embed the maximum unpredictable level of watermark in the host image using three different points for visual masking by proposing three different watermarking techniques. The first being DWT coefficient replacement which was applied on both gray scale and color images, the second proposed method was using the segmentation information from the multiscale morphological segmentation to embed the watermark using the (LSB) method. The last technique was also using the segmentation information from the multiscale morphological segmentation to embed the watermark this time using the spatio frequency masking. Results from different methods were compared.
