المستخلص

Maintaining the original path of the canal is important especially in small curved canals where bends and curves are not apparent on the conventional radiograph. Transportation of root canals has been shown to occur with various instrumentation methods which has been reduced with the introduction of Nitinol alloy. Although NiTi rotary files have been found to have several advantages, one of its major drawbacks is separation during clinical use.
The aim of this study was to compare two recently introduced rotary nickel titanium systems, namely Endosequence and Protaper regarding:
1. Canal centering ability and apical transportation using two different irrigating solutions namely, EDTA and sodium hypochlorite
2. Examination of the physical behaviour of the NiTi files
3. The effect of irrigating solutions on the physical characteristics of rotary NiTi files
A total of (80) mesio-buccal canals of permanent human mandibular first molar teeth were used in this study. A standard endodontic coronal access cavity was established in all teeth and working length was measured. Samples were placed in resin blocks using a fabricated brass endodontic cube. Each block was radiographed using direct digital radiography system (Digora) and the standardized paralleling technique by the XCP alignment system. Pre-instrumentation direct digital radiographic images were taken for each tooth in buccal and mesial views for canal angle measurements. Each specimen was marked at 3 points and sectioned using a precision saw-edged disc fitted into a precision sectioning machine.
