Abstract
The research deals with medical expert systems especially those concerned with Heart Diseases.
The first chapter provides an overview of different systems that identify, diagnose and manage Heart Diseases and tries to classify them into categories according to their tasks,applied investigation method and recommended treatment.
As for the second chapter, it highlights a brief definition of Artificial Intelligence since Expert Systems are an Artificial Intelligence application. Being the main topic of the research, the different concepts of Expert Systems are later explained in detail. ’
The third chapter is concerned with the practical part which
is the implementation of the medical system.
A detailed explanation of the system and the data gathering
followed by its statistical analysis are provided.
The program is illustrated by the program block diagram and
the decision trees from which the rules are derived.
Certainty factors assigned to the rules - which comprise the
system knowledge base - are based on heuristics. The system
is implemented in Prolog 2.
The fourth chapter includes the system screens and the sample run with its results. It shows how we move from one screen to the other.
The last chapter consists of the conclusions drawn from the system as well as the recommendations suggested for future work.
