Abstract
grades . Grade I:Pilocytic astrocytoma ,grade II gemistocytic astrocytoma , fibrillary astrocytoma and protoplasmic astrocytoma , grade III anaplastic astrocytoma ,grade I glioblastoma multiforms and gliomesenchymal tumors as gliosarcoma .These types differ in gross and microscopic picture .
Diagnosis of glioma depend on types and grades of glioma by clinical picture ,radiological diagnosis by CT scan ,MRI and recently MR Spectroscopy and pathological diagnosis by gross and microscopic picture
Treatment of glioma depend on The type and The grade of glioma. The main line of treatment is Surgical excision which is satisfactory in some types of glioma as grade I . Surgical treatment and postoperative Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy for other types of glioma but these types of treatments may leave some neurological deficit and may not completely eradicate the lesion leading to high possibility of recurrence .
Future therapies direction include new trends in treatment of glioma as Immunotherapy , gene therapy ,cell signal transduction inhibitors , cytotoxic agents as Temodale and anti –angiogenic therapy.
These types of therapies may eradicate the lesion without causing neurological deficit and may completely eradicate the lesion without possibility of recurrence
