Abstract

The graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA), methyl acrylate (MA) and ethylacrylate (EA) onto dehydrochlorinated polyvinyl chloride (DHPVC) was achieved at different experimental conditions. In the presence of a combination of dimethylaniline (DMA) and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) in case of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and in the presence of a combination of diethylaniline (DEA) and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) in case of methylacrylate (MA) and ethylacrylate (EA) , as a radical initiator systems, in cyclohexanone at room temperature. The effects of various reaction parameters such as time of irradiation, as well as the contents of initiators, monomer, dehydrochlorinated polyvinyl chloride (DHPVC) etc. on the grafting percentage (GP %) and grafting efficiency (GE %) were studied. The λmax and their extinction coefficient values of the used initiators were determined. The products of polymethyl methacrylate grafted dehydrochlorinated polyvinyl chloride (PMMA-g-DHPVC), polymethyl acrylate grafted dehydrochlorinated polyvinyl chloride (PMA-g-DHPVC) and polyethyl acrylate grafted dehydrochlorinated polyvinyl chloride (PEA-g-DHPVC) were characterized using The structure of graft products was characterized by intrinsic viscosity measurements, FTIR spectroscopic analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscope and thermogravimetric analysis. The mechanism of grafting was suggested.
