Abstract

The thesis is about Prevention of corrosion by organic compounds and plant extracts, Literature survey of C-steel corrosion and aim of this study. The chemical composition of the investigated compounds, preparation of the investigated Hydrochloric acid solution, the investigated thiophene and Mustard oil compounds, solutions and procedures used for the corrosion measurements such as a weight loss and electrochemical techniques. The effect of temperature on the corrosion inhibition of C-steel in 1M HCl was determined over the temperature range 25-450 C using weight loss measurements. The rate of corrosion increases with increasing the temperature together with decrease in inhibition efficiency for thiophene derivatives but increase for the oil, indicating that the inhibition occurs through physical adsorption for the thiophene derivatives chemical adsorption for the oil on C-steel surface. The effect of inhibitors on the cathodic and anodic polarization of C-steel in 1M HCl was investigated. The results obtained from (EIS) show that the corrosion reactions in the absence and presence of inhibitors proceed under charge transfer control. The influence of the chemical structure of the used compounds on their % inhibition efficiencies was discussed. Some quantum chemical parameters were calculated and they support the experimental results. In conclusion, The weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization measurements support the Agreement among these different independent techniques indicates the validity of the obtained results.
