Abstract

The present work is assigned to study the corrosion behavior of carbon steel in 1 M of HCl and the inhibiting effect of some thiadiazole derivatives. The obtained results showed that the inhibition efficiency of these compounds increased by increasing their concentration, so that the adsorption of these compounds is physical and the adsorption of the thiadiazole derivatives on carbon steel surface in 1 M HCl follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Some thermodynamic parameters are computed and discussed. Potentiodynamic polarization technique was used as a second method to study the inhibiting effect of the used inhibitors. Also, impedance spectroscopy measurements, electrochemical frequency modulation measurements and AC impedance spectroscopy measurements, scanning electron microscopy and quantum chemical studies. The weight loss, polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and EFM measurements support the assumption that corrosion inhibition primarily takes place through adsorption of the inhibitors on the carbon steel surface. Agreement among these different independent techniques indicates the validity of the obtained results.
