Abstract

The present work searches with two main targets; the first one is the preparation of selective solar absorber coatings of CuCoMnOx on glass, copper and aluminum substrates by a sol–gel and dip coating techniques for the possibility of application in thermal solar collectors for collect thermal energy and then utilize in thermal desalination techniques. The titanium or silicon -doped and un doped CuCoMnOx spinel films are deposited on different substrates from sols which will made from the following: Co-chloride, Cu-chloride and Mn-acetate (CoCuMnOx) in trying to improve the solar absorptance (αs) and the thermal emittance (ƐT) of the films performance., then SiOx protective over-coatings is added to improve the stability of the films. The precursors’ ratio Co:Cu:Mn is equal to 1:3:3. All the prepared films are characterized through studying structure, optical and thermal properties. The expected outcomes of this proposal are thermal solar collectors with a solar absorptance of 0.85 – 0.91 and a thermal emissivity below 0.09. The second is to studying the chemical characteristics affecting groundwater quality in isolated inland or coastal regions with high solar irradiation to evaluating them as feed water for thermal desalination plants. In this study, we put forward a Perspective for small-sized solar desalination system which incorporates the solar collecting, water evaporation, heat recovery and fresh water condensation processes within the common solar collector to produce fresh water directly.
