Abstract Femoral neck fractures are common injuries that occur predominantly in the elderly patients. For more than hundred years the definite treatment of fracture neck femur has been sought. The best surgical technique for rapid return to perambulatory life is hemiarthroplasty of hip joint. The disadvantages are that the native femoral head and neck are injured and replaced with an implant. The surgery is more extensive with greater surgical exposure and a greater amount of blood loss. There is also higher perioperative mortality although the patients are usually older with greater comorbidities. Perioperative complications in elderly patients treated for femoral neck fracture are common because of the high incidence of comorbidities in these patients. Increased age, DM, HTN, CVA and cardiopulmonary disease. In this study we have examined 60 patients with femoral neck fractures and they were followed up for one year after operation. All cases were admitted to Mansoura Emergency Hospital. Complications (either intraoperative or postoperative) were collected and analyzed to but recommendations for these cases in the future. The outcome of this study is 3 cases of dislocation, 3 cases of infection, one case of disassembly and 8 cases died within 2 years. from this study we have confirmed that in patient with femoral neck fracture who are prepared for hemiarthroplasty and suffering from multiple comorbidities, in order to reduce the mortality rate the most important issue is to operate as soon as possible to decrease hospital stay and to get DM and HTN optimized. |
