Abstract

This thesis discussed Brushless DC motors control for both electrical commutation and speed control. The control depends on the motor back EMF for commutation and speed measurement. Most traditional sensorless commutation control methods suffer from speed limitation because of using voltage dividers and filters. This thesis consists of six chapters can be summarized as following : Chapter 1: It is a general introduction about Brushless DC motors control for commutation and speed control, describing the problems which face both of commutation and speed control. And at the end of this chapter, a summary of the thesis contents is given. Chapter 2: A brief historical review of the previous researches which tried to solve the system problems. A detailed review of each of these researches is presented with the advantages and disadvantages of each. Chapter 3: Brushless DC motor modeling is discussed in this chapter and how this model can be used for simulating the proposed methods to test its performance. Chapter 4: A proposed method for brushless DC motors commutation using back EMF is discussed. The Starting up of the motor from standstill is also proposed. The simulation results of this method are presented to proof the system performance. Chapter 5: It is about the speed control of brushless DC motor using both PI controller and Fuzzy PI controller. The simulation results for both controllers are presented and a comparison between both of them is held up. The results are compared with previous research to proof the system performance. Chapter 6: It contains the conclusion of this thesis and the suggested future work which may be done as a completion for this thesis.
