Abstract

The main objective of this research is to achieve 98% removal of BOD5. As well as increase the efficiency of the stations. Take advantage of the features suspended growth and attached growth. The possibility of the application of this research to existing stations to gain increased efficiency. As well as the objective of this research is to be use new media (Fiberglass) and to be easy to growth the biomass above surface area and have a big surface area in small volume. Modification of activated sludge process is proposed herein, the modification process involves applying mixed culture in aeration tanks of activated sludge process for wastewater treatment. Such modification, the so called mixed culture media this media was applied at different percentage with respect to aeration tank volume, with the aeration being operated at different retention time. Such innovative technologies was classified as hybrid, Treatment Of Wastewater Using Aerated Fixed Film Reactor (AFFR) systems, which use integrated-growth support surfaces such as fiber-gals media offer potential cost-effective solutions. Treatment Of Wastewater Using Aerated Fixed Film Reactor (AFFR) can be used for some different applications such as increasing the efficiency of BOD5 removal, new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) construction and also upgrading the existing WWTP, not only for increasing the capacity of BOD removal, but also removal of the nutrients.Treatment of Wastewater Using Aerated Fixed Film Reactor (AFFR) system process can be a less expensive alternative for upgrading existing wastewater treatment plants to increase the capacity of the organic loading removal rate and nitrification, and if needed, DE nitrification and phosphorous removal. Although relatively new, pilot-plan studies show that the process is reliable, achieving effluent ammonia and nitrate concentrations comparable to or better than other biological removal options in about one fifth of the tank volume. Treatment of Wastewater Using Aerated Fixed Film Reactor (AFFR) system process does this by combining fixed-film and suspended activated sludge process. A raw wastewater has been treated in wastewater treatment plant of Met Abo El-Kom city using attached growth systems. The treatment was accomplished using an Aerated Fixed Film Reactor (AFFR) with plastic plates or plastic plates with plastic mesh. The first reactor consisted of a number of biofilm carriers from fiber glass plates. Another modified (AFFAR) has been used by modifying the first one by attaching plastic mesh to enhance biofilm area. The system was run in the field for more than six months. Practically, the system consisted of four stages as with bafflers at hydraulic loading rate (HLR) of 0.1 and 0.2 m3/m2/d.
