Abstract

The population growth of the Al-Qairawan region in Kuwait has been accompanied by a significant increase in the surface water level in the region. In some areas, this level has reached a level that has adverse effects on the environment and public health, as well as engineering damage, including damage to public facilities. This study sheds light on the reasons behind the exacerbation of this problem as well as the various sources of nutrition and water flow rates to and from the Quaternary aquifer deposits which form the soil sector using mathematical model ( Visual MODFLOW v.3). The results of the mathematical modeling were as follows : 1- The scenario of imposing the insulation panels at various depths (9 meters, 10 meters and 11 meters) to reduce the levels of the groundwater by changing the direction of the groundwater path. The results of the model showed a decrease in the water level between 4 cm -2.2 cm and 2 cm -1.82 m and 2 cm -2.05 M respectively. 2 -The scenario of the imposition of 20 wells at the disposal of 100 m 3 / hour distributed around the region north and in the middle of the region again and operates 24 hours for a year. The result of this solution is a decrease in the level of groundwater with a maximum of 2.35 meters and 1.68, respectively. 3 - The imposition of the number of 2 surface Drains in two different places (north and center of the region) with depth of 3 meters and a length of 5 km. The results of this plan showed that this solution caused a decrease in the level of groundwater with a maximum of 2.72 meters and 1.62 meters for the two regions. An economic study was carried out to estimate the cost of each of the proposed solutions. The cost of the first solution was 189,000 KD and the cost of the second solution (Dewatering wells) was 160000 KD while the cost of the third solution amounted to 146250 KD. Therefore, it is recommended to implement the third solution as the best solution because of its efficiency and low cost.
