Abstract

The concrete was a primary and more indispensable construction material because of its durability. However, the essential concrete component, which is cement, has a passive impact on the environment and responsible for 7% to 8%of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission yearly around the world and exhaust our natural resources. Several studies have been carried out to seek innovative alternative Portland Cement (PC)materials in concrete. This aim was producing eco-friendly concrete by improving concrete properties, enhancing microstructure, and reducing CO2.The Supplementary Cementing Materials (SCMs) considered most suitable alternative materials to output sustainable Green Concrete (GC) that keep our resources, energy, and environment. The development of GC by using SCMs as PC partially replacement take a great attention in recent century. The GC technology is depending on development the concrete microstructure by using industrial waste material like SCMs to keep our natural resources and energy which consumed in PC industry. The GC worked on reducing the effect of PC industry pollution:- Research scope: - The application of SCMs and quartz powder in the field of concrete by studying the effect of mixing different kind of SCMs with each other or with quartz powder to achieve replacement level up to 50 instead of PC on the concrete properties:- Research objective: The research main objective is development the microstructure of GC by using high replacement level up to 50 by mixing SCMs with or without quartz powder instead of PC, and the benefit of mixing SCMs in concrete, and that by studying their effect on the concrete properties and microstructure development. Some sample were examinated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to determine the effect of mixing SCMs and quartz powder on the concrete microstructure. The research objectives are Find the suitable mixed material proportion.Develop GC industry.Evaluate the new GC properties. Overcome the previous binary and ternary concrete system problem.Study the ability to use Quartz powder as cheaper PC alternative material :- Steps Study : - in this the previous researches which studying the use of carbon nanotubes in the concrete were discussed, materials used in this research were tested to determine the properties of these materials, then concrete mixes were designed using different mixing ratios of SCMs to study the effect of SCMs on concrete microstructure development and improvement its properties. Summary of Study:- The results showed that mix SCMs development the concrete microstructure and improve the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, tensile strength, and sulfate resistance.
