Abstract

1:-Introduction: Carbon (C) based materials have drawn attention and were incorporated into the cement matrix for strengthening. Among the family of carbon-based materials, 1-D carbon nano-tubes and 2-D graphene seem promising as viable alternatives to the conventional nano-materials used in cement due to the versatile chemistry of carbon and its outstanding mechanical properties due to strong C-C bonds. Graphene-oxide (GO), being from the family of C- based materials, is a layered, mostly sp3 (C-O) and sp2 bonded compound that can be readily dispersed as each sheet in a good solvent. Mechanical properties of GO-polymer composites have already been observed to increase with an addition of only a small weight percentage.2:- Research objective: - This research investigates the effect of physico-mechanical properties of studying the effect of using GO of different ratios (0.04%, 0.05%, and 0.06%) to cement mortar as well as other pozzolanic materials as partial replacement of cement on physical properties of cement mortars, investigating the influence of using GO hybrid nano-materials (GO + NS) and (GO+ NC) of different ratios (0.03%, 0.04%, 0.05%) to cement mortar as partial replacement of cement on mechanical as well as water absorption of cement mortar mixes , optimizing multi-scale pozzolanic materials in cement mortar mixes for both mechanical as well as water absorption of cement mortar mixes and finally a comparison between the numerical analysis and the results of experimental work using a computer program (Abacus program).3:- Steps Study: - In this research, previous different nano materials research were studied, materials used in this research were tested to determine the properties of these materials, then mortar mixes were designed using different ratios of cement, GO, NS and NC, hardened mortars tests were conducted, then analyze and discussed the results of these tests. A numerical investigation using nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis program (ABAQUS) was also carried out to simulate the behavior of the cube, beam, and cylinder.4:- Summary of Study: - Results indicated that the optimum dose of GO sheets was 0.05% by weight where the compressive strength, the flexural strength were improved by 35.66% and 33.33% respectively, and low thermal conductivity by 6.36% at age 28 days .No significant increase in compressive and flexural strength on adding hybrid nano-materials (GO sheets with 1% NS) to mortar. Also reduction effect in compressive and flexural strengths was achieved on adding hybrid nano-materials (GO sheets with 5% NC) to mortar. High thermal conductivity was obtained at age 28 days with respect to control ones when hybrid nano-materials were added to cement mortar.
