Abstract

Voltage regulation is an important issue in electrical distribution systems. It is used to keep the customer voltage within specified tolerances. North Delta Electric Distribution Company (NDEDC) uses Voltage Regulator Transformers and, recently, Step- Up Transformers to improve the voltage regulation and to maintain the voltage within acceptable limits at consumer terminals. However, the voltage regulation problems are still unsolved specially at fault conditions. Therefore, this thesis investigates the voltage regulation improvement using advanced devices such as Static Var Compensator (SVC), or Static Synchronous Compensat STATCOM. ”DEMSHALT” feeder is used as a real feeder at NDEDC network. The test feeder is simulated in Alternative Transient Program (ATP). The simulation results are verified using real measurements for all cases. The proposed voltage regulation devices are simulated and studied for improvement the system voltage regulation. Three studies are carried out for investigating the best performance; fault analysis, harmonic analysis, and economic analysis. The results show that STATCOM is the best of voltage regulation.
