Abstract

• This thesis aims to preparation of environmentally-friendly modern graphene nanocomposites and the study of structural characterization, photocatalytic activity and antibacterial activity as applications on graphene oxide (GO) and modified GO by ZnWO4 (ZW) and Bi2WO6 (BW) nanocomposites.The thesis contains: A theoretical introduction on water pollution, types of contaminants and types of dyes and their impact on the environment and human and its treatment methods. It also included the degradation of organic pollutants by photocatalysis and its challenges, basic knowledge of semiconductors, introduction of graphene, GO, the theoretical structures of GO, applications of graphene and GO in photocatalysis of pollutants and modification of GO and previous studies on ZW and BW photocatalyst. Structure characterizations of the prepared samples were determined using XRD, TEM, SEM, FT-IR, EDX and the UV/VIS techniques. The results showed that the preparation of GO, ZW, BW and graphene modification by GO/ZW and GO/BW were corresponding to what is present in the previous scientific literature.•The Methylene Blue (MB) and Rhodamine-B (RhB) using as organic pollutants.• The photocatalytic activity of G/ZW and G/BW were showed a greatly enhanced compared to that of pure ZW and BW under visible light irradiation and the photodegradation of dye increased with increase content of GO and calcination temperature for ZW and BW. And the GO/BW showed higher photocatalytic activities compare with GO/ZW.•The antibacterial activity was tested against to microorganisms of E. coli, B. subtilis, and C. Albicans, the GZW4 and GBW4 showed the higher antibacterial activity. The antibacterial activity was increased with increasing GO content and calcination temperature for ZW and BW. GO/BW showed higher antibacterial activities compare with GO/ZW. • Keywords: GO, ZnWO4, Bi2WO6, photocatalytic degradation, MB, RhB, and antibacterial activity.
