Abstract

The present study attempted to evaluate the success of physicians, in terms of the number and quality of their publication productivity as a result of implementing an online training program based on international electronic medical journals criteria. To collect data for this purpose, the researcher constructed an online training program based on international electronic medical journals criteria, checklist of the skills and sub-skills of basic academic writing and publication, pre-posttest of basic academic writing and publication skills, an evaluation rubric, and a questionnaire. The sample of the study was thirty physicians in Urology and Nephrology Center faculty of Medicine, Mansoura. They were randomly chosen and assigned to a treatment group. The treatment group physicians were taught academic writing and publication skills using the online program after they had basic academic writing and publication skills pre-test. Findings revealed that the online training program had significant effects on improving the basic academic writing and publication skills. The treatment group success in publishing their research articles in high-impact journals. It has been strongly recommended that English language programs should increase to improve language skills in general and academic writing in particular, equip online learning with necessary audio-visual aids, diagnose graduates’ writing problems in the beginning of their studies at university, and tailor the program contents according to their needs.
