Abstract The price of fossil fuel is recently rising and it will be exhausted soon. There is a growing enthusiasm for using renewable energies to reduce greenhouse effect as well as to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels. Thus, looking for an alternative way to develop a substitute for diesel fuel is an imperious task for humans. The main objective of this research is to develop an advanced new techniques for the production of high purity methyl ester, environmental friendly biodiesel from Jatropha and/or other oils as a nonedible/edible oils using transesterification process via three different techniques; using supercritical CO2 (ScCO2) and/or supercritical methanol in batch and/or continuous systems via microreactors. The systems were investigated under different conditions. Testing the physical properties of fuel is an essential step to guarantee the quality of the produced fuel to be used as a blend with petrol diesel. Viscosity, flash point, specific gravity, pour point and cloud point of the produced biodiesel were tested and compared with the standard biodiesel properties and found nearly equal to the standard values. The calorific value and diesel index were also tested and found quietly equivalent to those of petrol diesel. |
