Abstract

The last two decades have seen enormous expansion in synthesis, characterization, and studying the chemical and physical properties of materials familiar as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). This thesis offers SA@HKUST-1 with various advantages such as easily prepared in larger amounts, high catalytic activity, straightforward synthetic route under mild conditions, high thermal stability, simple handling, easy recovery without losing its activity which makes it an eco-friendly, green and efficient catalyst. The synthesized materials have been characterized using XRD, XPS, BET, FT-IR, SEM, EDS analysis and TEM. PSM of parent HKUST-1 with SA sharply increased the surface acidity and the catalytic activity. The catalytic activity of HKUST-1 and SA@HKUST-1 composites were applied in catalyzing of various multicomponent condensation reactions e.g. 3,4-Dihydropyrimidinones, 7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin, and 14-Aryl-14-alkyl-14-H-dibenzoxanthene. Applications of parent HKUST-1 and SA@HKUST-1 composites in the adsorption were also examined by studying the removal of MB and MG dyes as organic pollutants and Pb (II) and Cd (II) as inorganic pollutants. Hopefully, this will serve research on improving the prospective use of MOFs for future applications.
