Abstract

Discharge planning and counseling after abortion are an important part of nursing care and should be integrated as a component of health care system in Egypt. Discharge counseling after abortion maintain women’s heeling of grief, improve women’s satisfaction and affect quality of provided care. Thus, the present study was conducted to implement discharge counseling for abortive women using medical professionals’ guidelines versus traditional instructions. Aim of the study: This study aimed to implement discharge counseling for abortive women using medical professionals’ guidelines versus traditional instructions. Subjects and Method: The study was conducted at labor and delivery unit of obstetrics and gynecology department in Mansoura University Hospitals, Mansoura city. The study subjects included 106abortive women. Data were collected through three tools. The 1st tool was structured interview questionnaire consisted of three parts. The 2nd tool was perinatal grief scale and the third tool was satisfaction scale. The main finding of the study: discharge counseling for abortive women using medical professionals’ guidelines had a positive impact on alleviating post abortion grief and improve women’s satisfaction regarding care provided. Recommendations: Discharge planning and counseling should be an integral part of nursing process after abortion to improve overall quality of care. Discharge planning and counseling should be integrated with the context of health care system in maternity hospitals. Hospital administrators must establish organization instruments to encourage nursing participation in discharge counseling, and provide ongoing support. Continuous training programs for health care providers regarding implementation of medical professional guidelines with abortive women.
