Abstract

The power disturbances in the transmission system is controlled and reduced by using Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) controllers. FACTS are installed at electrical power systems for improving its performance. Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is used for controlling power flow in electrical transmission system. UPFC is able to control the active power and reactive power through transmission lines.
Therefore, the best performance of the UPFC is achieved and the transmission losses are aimed to be minimized at different load conditions and variable of generation Therefore, in this thesis an algorithm for achieving these aims is proposed. Matlab is used for simulating the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm is implemented on the IEEE 14-bus test system. The results show that the UPFC using the proposed algorithm effectively act the proposed requirements’. The proposed algorithm is design based on Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) and Artificial Neural Network Controller (ANNC) for smarting transmission system. The optimal location of UPFC, and the control of UPFC parameters are determined. Therefore, the UPFC best performance is achieved, the system transmission losses, and the total cost are minimized. The proposed algorithm is implemented on a section of Egyptian Electricity Network for practical validation. The simulation results ensure the ability of the proposed algorithm for achieving the goals.
