Abstract

Introduction: Sedimentation is one of the methods of water treatment based on gravity and needs large areas to complete the process. Therefore, the use of the plates settler in the compact units of small areas, but these compact units face some difficulties such as the accumulation of sediments which reduces the efficiency of these plates and decrease the efficiency of sedimentation. Research objective: Studying the accumulation of sediments on the plates settler and to find a mechanism for cleaning these plates settler in order to increase the efficiency of the plates system in the sedimentation process. Steps of study: Observation of some compact units that use plats system and we found that there are some problems such as accumulation of sludge on plates lead to clogging of distances between plates that is too difficult to clean. After that, making model of the unit of plates settler in a water station depending on the change of the distances between the plates, the angle of inclination of the plates and water turbidity and find the maximum amount of sediments on the plates and the use of different methods in cleaning these plates depending on the use of parallel network of plates use water of different pressures in the cleaning process, air of different pressures and electric separation. Conclusions: The electrical separation can achieve high removal efficiency of washing in short retention time less than few minutes with a little amount of disposed water.
