Abstract

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) has become the core of distributed ubiquitous technologies, and it has developed to provide a set of advanced sensing services to monitor the natural phenomena and environmental conditions in different Internet of Things (IoT) implementations. Although WSN offers independent reliable schema can collect the real information from the physical world, it may negatively affect network lifetime and power consumption alike. The main objective of this study is to allow Energy Harvesting Wireless Sensor Network (EH-WSN) model to dependably achieve energy constraints using a new methodology involving a dynamic energy harvesting clustering and gateway selection (EHCGS). Moreover, five algorithms are proposed: (i) neighbor discovery algorithm, (ii) Cluster Head (CH) selection algorithm, (iii) gateway declaration algorithm, (iv) gateway selection algorithm, and (v) CH election. Chapter 2 introduces a background about WSNs, it describes WSN to the Internet integration challenges, different architectures, and energy problem solution. Chapter 3 presents the proposed EHCGS technique that considers the main challenges of the WSN to Internet integration. Chapter 4 presents a description of the simulation scenario, performance evaluation metrics, and finally the simulation results where the performance evaluation of the proposed EHCGS is compared NEEC and MH-EANOC protocol. Chapter 5 concludes the most important results of this thesis and provides some suggestions for future work. . The experimental results prove the worthiness of the proposed EHCGS to increase network lifetime and to reduce power consumption, packet loss more than other state-of-the-art techniques in the literature review.
