Abstract

Back ground : In the developing countries one of the major causes of mortality and morbidity in children is fever of unknown origin. Aim of this study was to assess the mothers’ perception about unknown fever in their preschool age children at Mahalla Fever Hospital. Method: A cross sectional design was used to carry out this study at outpatient clinics of Mahalla Fever Hospital on a purposive sample included 80 mothers of preschool age children. Five tools were used for data collection. including socioeconomic scale, and structured interview questionnaire to assess preschool age children’s health status, mothers’ knowledge, subjective practice and attitude about unknown fever in their preschool age children. Conclusion: Most of the studied mothers had poor total score levels of knowledge regarding unknown fever in their preschool age children. As well the majority of the studied mothers had improper total score levels of subjective practice regarding unknown fever in their preschool age children. Furthermore the studied mothers’ mean attitude score was 1.56 (0.5). Finally there was slight association between studied mothers’ total score levels of knowledge, and order of their preschool age children. Recommendations: Design and conduct health education program for mothers about unknown fever at various community settings. Design and facilitate alternative health education media for mothers about unknown fever at various health care settings. Empower health screening for preschool age children for early detection of health problems. Key Words: Mothers, Perception, Preschool Age Children, Unknown Fever.
