Abstract

Wastewater is the major problem and obstacle not only for the environment but also for people. So, a system called constructed wetland can be used to overcome this problemThe main objectives of this study is to evaluate the performance of small-scale model was built inside the overloaded horizontal subsurface constructed wetlands, Samaha treatment plant (SWWTP) treating domestic wastewater to the limit that can get safely discharged (optimum discharges) to agricultural drains which we can use again in industry, agriculture and other fields. This system deals with three cells (rubber- plastic-gravel) as a media and controls inlet discharge to get the safe discharge (optimum limit of discharge) to all pollutants indicators : biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), in addition to ammonia (NH4), phosphate (PO4), dissolved oxygen (DO), and fecal coliforms (FC). It goes along with the standard limits of article 52/2013 executive regulations of (law 48 of ministry of irrigation and water resources MWRI) for protection river Nile and waterways from pollutions. As the outlet, discharge of water is safe to be mixed with El Salam canal and to be used again in El Mansoura elmostagad, EL Nezam, and Hadoth and finally in El Salam canal. In the study from the comparison between the 3 cells, the plastic cell in generality of pollutant parameters indicators is the perfect media for treatment wastewater. For BOD the percentage of removal efficiency in plastic increases by 2% than gravel and 3.2% than rubber. For COD the percentage of removal efficiency in plastic increases by 0.04% than gravel and 5.5% than rubber .For TSS the percentage of removal efficiency in plastic increases by 2% than gravel and 1% than rubber. In a small scale of Samaha wetland plant plastic cell was the best cell in treatment of waste water with area 20m2 .To widen the usage of plastic cell in all Samaha plant not only in this small scale part it will be need about 19.90 fed (83588.70 m2) to treat all influent discharge of Samaha plant.
