Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of aqueous extract of Moringa on neurotoxicity in rats. This study was carried out on 40 male rats of a Sprague Dawley type and then divided the rats into Four groups are as follows:- The first group consists of ten rats that were fed on BD and served as a negative control group. The second group consists of ten rats that were fed on BD and sodium fluoride only 20 mg/kg b.wt orally by stomach tube for 30 days and served as the positive control. The third group consists of ten rats that were fed on BD and sodium fluoride 20 mg/kg b.wt + Moringa Oleifera 300 mg/kg orally by stomach tube for 30 days. The fourth group consists of ten rats that were fed on BD and sodium fluoride 20 mg/kg b.wt + Moringa Oleifera 500 mg/kg orally by stomach tube for 30 days. After four weeks, scarification of rats has been finished and drawn blood samples divided into two samples 1st placed in EDITA tube used for CBC test and 2nd separated to serum for determination of Cholesterol, Triglyceride, HDL, LDL, TAC, SOD, MDA, Catalase, TNF-α, and IL-6. The results showed the following: - 1. Statistically significant increase in the activity of cholesterol, triglycerides, and HDL in rats treated with NaF, while rats that treated with Moringa there is a statistically significant decrease. 2. The result of the antioxidants in the group that treated with NaF was statistically significantly decreased when compared to the control group and treated Moringa groups. 3. Also a statistically significant increase in MDA activity in rats treated by NaF, but Moringa treatment decrease activity. 4. The result of the neurological markers in the group that treated with NaF was a statistically significant increase when compared to the control group and treated Moringa groups. 5. Statistically significant increase in the activity of dopamine, serotonin neurotransmitters in rats treated with Moringa, while rats that are treated with NaF there is a statistically significant decrease. - Moringa Oleifera as a safe and effective therapeutic agent for neurotoxicity in the future.
