Abstract

Routing selection and supporting Quality of Service (QoS) are fundamental problems in Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET). Many different protocols have been proposed in the literature and some performance simulations are made to address this challenging task. MANETs present additional challenges when it’s used in large scale network involving large numbers of nodes. Clustering strategies allow fast link and topology management, better than traditional routing protocols, and also increase network appearance parameters such as delay, usage of bandwidth, energy consumption and improving the system lifetime. This thesis outlines a survey of main MANET routing protocols and clustering schemes, which are recently focused on researches. The evaluation aims to highlight the directions for the future design of routing protocol which would be better than the existing ones in terms of energy utilization and delivery ratio. Also in this thesis, we propose the Square Weighted Clustering Algorithm based on Replication (SWCAR) MANET routing protocol. The simulation results that SWCAR achive a great degree of scalability in the large network, also accomplishes a major saving in the energy consumption and enhancement in the network metrics and system lifetime.
