Abstract

Skin is the largest organ of the body. It makes up 16% of total body weight with a surface area of 1.8 m2, that offers a direct barrier between the inner tissues and the environment. PUs are described as injuries to the skin and surrounding tissues because of an extended pressure at one or more places on the skin. Wound managements entail many lines such as remove necrotic tissue, treat infection, fill dead space, protect the wound from infection, and monitor healing. In addition to, new days many new modalities of wound treatment have been promoted including negative pressure wound therapy, electric stimulation, derma graft, and wound care through using growth factors. Insulin is a peptide hormone with multiple physiological roles and recall a type of growth factors. It regulates blood glucose level and it is thought to have a beneficial growth function in wound healing. Since insulin can probably assist to restore the integrity of damaged skin, so it’s vital for wound repair, mainly as a result of its low cost relative to other growth factors. Aim of the study: Evaluate the effect of using topical insulin for improving pressure ulcers healing among patients in neurology department. Findings of the present study concluded that: Using insulin dressing was effective and safe method to accelerate PUs healing than using hospital routine dressing.
