Abstract

The present study was done on 98 table eggs (51 market, 47 balady eggs) which randomly collected from different private farms and markets in Damietta province, Egypt. Our results revealed that by using Premi® SP-NT Antibiotic residues were detected in 49 (96%) out of 51 market egg samples, of which 40 (85%) out of 47 balady egg samples, Results of HPLC confirmed that Residues of tetracycline and oxytetracycline were detected in 100% of examined eggs. Amoxicillin was detected in 100% of examined egg samples. Ampicillin and amoxicillin were detected in 100% of balady eggs. However, 66% of market eggs included both ampicillin and amoxicillin. According to the results of this study, the highest contamination rate of antibiotic residues was related to tetracycline and oxytetracycline groups in market egg samples, whereas, ampicillin, amoxicillin, tetracycline and oxytetracycline groups confirmed positive in all balady egg samples. The results of the present investigation indicate that there is widespread misuse of antibiotic by egg laying chicken farms reflecting a general lack of compliance with the recommended practices regarding the use of antimicrobial agents at the national level to protect consumers’ health. Finally, veterinary supervision in all farms and routine assessment visits to poultry farms are to be set by the Veterinary authorities for control the presence of these residues.
