Abstract

The work in this thesis aims firstly to the synthesis, characterization which include, elemental analyses, thermal (TGA and DTGA), spectral (IR, UV-Visible, 1H, 13CNMR, and ESR) and magnetic measurements as well as anti-cancer activity as a biological application of new three ligands namely, 2,2’-malonylbis(N-phenylhydrazine-1-carbothioamide) (H4L1), (2,2’-malonylbis(N-ethylhydrazine-1-carbothioamide) (H4L2), and 2,2’-malonylbis(N-benzylhydrazine-1-carbothioamide) (H4L3) with their metal complexes of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) metal ions. The obtained results can be summarized as follow:1. The proposed chemical formulae of the 2,2’-malonylbis(N-phenyl hydrazine-1-carbothioamide) (H4L1), 2,2’-malonylbis(N-ethylhydrazine-1-carbothioamide) (H4L2) and 2,2’-malonylbis(N-benzylhydrazine-1-carbothioamide) (H4L3) and their Metal Complexes are in a good agreement with the stoichiometry concluded from their analytical data of carbon, hydrogen, chloride and metal ion contents. The elemental analyses data showed that the isolated complexes had a 2:1 (M: L) stoichiometry. 2. All complexes have high melting points (300˚C) and insoluble in most organic solvents, also they partial soluble in DMF and DMSO. 3. The coordination sites of the ligand, the nature of metal-ligand bonds and the nature of the sulphate groups and the existence of the solvated molecules have been elucidated. Different modes of chelation for the investigated ligands are suggested based on careful comparison between the spectra of the ligands and their corresponding complexes. 4. Some complexes showed more cytotoxic activity than ligand and other not.
