Abstract

This investigation was conducted at a commercial nursery (Abnaa Shaesha) in Nekyta Dakahlia Governorate Egypt during the two successive seasons, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 where one season takes 17 months, in a trial for improving the vegetative growth and chemical constituents of Zanthoxylum beecheyanum plant by using natural extracts and find a commercial propagation protocol through stem cuttings of this important plant in the local environment of Egypt. This is because of its pharmaceutical and aesthetic importance, as a trial for lowering pollution on the environment. Experiment І : Improving the vegetative growth and chemical constituent of Zanthoxylum beecheyanum by using natural extracts on vegetative growth and chemical constituents. The obtained results could be summarized as follows: 1- Plants treated with garlic extract at 15 % were the best in the change of the number of branches, fresh and dry weights of leaves and branches (without leaves) after 5 months and plant content of phosphors after 17 months in both seasons. Also, this treatment was ranked second in plant content of alkaloids after 5 and 17 months in both seasons. 2- Plants drenched with garlic extract at 5 % were increasind content of (chlorophyll a, b and total) after 5 and 17 months, carotenoids, and total sugars after 17 months during both seasons. 3- Plants treated with garlic extract 10 % were the best treatment in carotenoids content after 5 months at both seasons. 4- Plants applied with moringa extract 5 % were the best in the increasing rate of the number of branches, plant content of minerals (nitrogen and potassium) after 17 months and plant content of alkaloids after 5 months at both seasons. 5- Plants treated with moringa extract 15 % were the best in plant content of potassium and phosphors after 5 months and alkaloids content after 17 months at both seasons. 6- Plants applied with licorice extract at 5 g/L were the best in the change of plant length after 5 months in both seasons. 7- Plants drenched with licorice extract at 10 g/L gave the highest total sugars content and nitrogen percentage after 5 months at both seasons. Experiment П : Stem cutting propagation of Zanthoxylum beecheyanum plant with studing the effect of indole butyric acid (IBA) on cuttings rooting characteristics. The obtained results could be summarized as follows : 1- Cuttings treated with 500 ppm IBA were the best in percentage of potassium in both seasons. 2- Cuttings applied with 1500 ppm IBA were the best in number of roots and percentage of rooting in both seasons and fresh and dry weight of roots in first season. 3- Cuttings treated with 2000 ppm IBA were the best in fresh and dry weight of roots in second season and percentage of nitrogen in both seasons. 4- Cuttings applied with 2500 ppm IBA were the best in higher in root length, total soluble sugar content and total soluble phenols content in both seasons. 5- Anatomical changes during the formation and emergence of adventitious roots showed that when treated cuttings with IBA at 1500 ppm the root primordia differentiation was achieved, they penetrated the stem cortex and were projected well beyond the stem surface and the roots with organized tissue system emerged from the stem 15 days after auxin treatment while, this stage was observed after 20 days from using IBA at 2000 ppm. 6- from the anatomical observations, cuttings treated with IBA at 1500 ppm, the first morphogenetic root zones, resulting from divisions of meristemoids cell regions, were observed at 10-15 days from auxin treatment, while, cuttings treated with IBA at 2000 ppm were observed at 15-20 days. 7- Vascular transition tissues were also clearly developed in the growing roots of treated cuttings with IBA at 1500 or 2000 ppm which ensured the translocation of nutrients and hormonal factors to growing roots. CONCLUSION : We could be recommended that dilatation in using natural extracts of garlic, moringa and licorice as drench on surface soil at 250 ml/plant for improving vegetative growth and chemical constituent of Zanthoxylum beecheyanum plants as follows :- For improving vegetative growth, we can apply garlic extract at 15 % every 15 days. However, for increasing total alkaloids, we can apply moringa extract at 15 % followed by garlic extract at 15 % every 15 days. We can propagate Zanthoxylum beecheyanum by terminal stem cuttings after treated it with IBA at 1500 ppm which improving all rooting characteristics (rooting percentage, roots number, roots fresh weight and total soluble phenols content), with a non-expensive cost.
