Abstract

The present studies were carried out in the apiary of Sakha station at Kafr El-sheikh Governorate, which belongs to Bee Research Department, Plant Protection Research Institute, Agriculture Research Center, Egypt, during two successive years 2018 and 2019. This study aimed to investigate effect of sugary feeding periods for honeybee colonies: feeding until the beginning of flowering (FSB), feeding until mid of flowering season (FSM) and feeding until the end of flowering (FSE) on some biological properties of brood workers and drones rearing, gathering and stored of pollen, production of honey and physicochemical characteristic of honey. Part I: Study the biological monthly and seasonal activities of honey bee colonies. 1. Studying the honeybee colonies activities in workers’ brood rearing. The obtained results that the maximum and highly significant in workers brood rearing activity between feeding periods groups was at February, March, May, July and August; FSB the heights recorded were (730± 10.00, 705± 21.79, 860± 36.06, 762± 10.00 and 791± 12.77 inch2 /day) followed FSM were (690± 20.00, 685± 21.79, 711± 20.07, 602± 19.08 and 625± 21.79 inch2 /day) and FSE were (701± 21.79, 672± 19.08, 620± 21.79, 500± 17.32 and 433± 11.27 inch2 /day) respectively in previously mention months of the first study year. There is a slight decreased occurred gradually during September to December, the lowest value recorded at November month which were 20± 5.00, 22± 3.00 and 18± 4.00 inch2 /day with FSB, FSM and FSE respectively. As well the results were similar in the second year.
