Abstract

This thesis deals with the experimental investigation of the outlet temperature and efficiency of solar air heater (SAH). The experimental test rig is designed and fabricated and provided with the accurate measuring devices to study the effect of jet impingement through circular jets on the absorber plate using a wire mesh, in a duct flow of solar air heater, and compared with conventional solar air heater with jet plate. The system is examined by varying the nozzle diameter (3 mm, 5 mm,7mm and 9 mm) in the air mass flow rate range of 0.0147–0.0201 kg/s. The study revealed that the highest performance is achieved with 3mm diameter hole with maximum thermal efficiency of 72.33%with wire mesh and 61.89% without wire mesh reached at the flow rate of 0.0201 kg/s. The lowest performance is recorded with the 9mm diameter hole. The percentage increase in the thermal, thermo hydraulic and exergy efficiency of the IJDPSAH with metal wire mesh at 5 mm jet diameter are 29.48%, 30.27 and 50.73, respectively. The maximum exergy and thermo-hydraulic efficiency of 7.01% and 69.40, respectively.
