المستخلص

Most of the urban communities in Libya are concentrated on the coastal strip overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Most of the desert residents come to live in the areas overlooking the Mediterranean because there are no large urban communities in the desert, and also because they do not tolerate the harsh climate conditions in the desert. The desert constitutes about 70% of the total area of the country. The desert areas were successful for living and accordingly, the research problem can be formulated as the lack of scientific knowledge on the extent to which the principles of Islamic architecture are used as a stimulus for the development of desert communities in Libya. To solve this problem, the study proposed a methodology is as follows. first addressed the theoretical study. The theoretical part was divided into three chapters. First chapter deal with Islamic architecture (its definition, its creation and development through the ages, its elements, and the multiplicity of types of buildings in it), The second one deals with the presentation of the main research point, which is the principles of Islamic architecture derived from Islamic law, which are (principles specific to architectural formation, principles specific to urbanization, urban compatibility with environmental conditions). The third chapter deals with the explanation of the development of Arab desert urban communities through (defining urban development and Arab desert communities factors of their emergence, their characteristics, patterns, areas and problems of Arab desert urban communities). Secondly chapter, the analytical study represented in the fourth chapter. This chapter presents a comparison between desert regional cities in order to analyze them in terms of achieving the aforementioned principles of Islamic architecture mentioned in the second chapter. Therefore, this chapter was divided into three parts: The first city: deals with the analysis of the city of Ghardaia in Algeria and its analysis in terms of achieving principles of Islamic architecture; The second city: deals with the analysis of the city of New Qurna in Egypt and its analysis in terms of the realization of the principles of Islamic architecture in it; The third city: The research followed the analysis of the principles of Islamic architecture on the Libyan desert city, which is the ancient city of Ghadames. The city was studied more extensively as it is in the study area and also as an urban heritage registered with UNESCO. The Results and recommendations deal with problem of the study, the most important of which is that the principles of Islamic architecture at the levels of (house, planning and environment) certainly provide their residents with desert communities worthy of and prevent them from migrating back towards the coastal cities, similar to the ancient city of Ghadames studied in the applied study.
