Abstract

The target of this study is to minimize the problems related to the drilling shales of the Kafr El Sheikh Formation, which encountered while drilling in Mediterranean Sea wells. Four samples of the shales were used, representing the Kafr El-Sheikh Formation in the Timsah field in the Mediterranean Sea and collected from wells (Temsah-30, Tamsah-30, Tamsah SE-31, and Tamsah-NW-13). Accordingly, drilling mud was prepared using %7 potassium chloride and other samples were prepared using nanomaterials with different concentrations of 3110 - 3100 - 3100 - 31%0 - 1133 - 110 - 0133 - 010 grams/barrel of each material, then various tests were done on them and the comparison was made. The results of the study concluded that potassium chloride has a distinct ability to reduce the interaction between drilling mud and shale samples to a greater degree than what all nanomaterials do. On the contrary, with the rheological properties and the property of fluid loss from drilling mud into the formations, it was noted that the nanomaterials are distinguished in their performance over potassium chloride.
