Abstract
This thesis is one of the researches that seek for urban and dedicate the efforts in searching for different and effective ways for urban development. The main title of this research is about the importance of universal urban design in hosting mega sports events plans in a way for urban development in Egypt. Hosting mega sports events in a city need to think about the urban of this city, that should be flexible enough to serve extra users with different cultures and different physical abilities. That leads the research to study the definition of universal urban design that fits these criteria. Hosting mega sports events is considered a national plan. It is drawn up with limited time not only to gain sportive benefits, but also for social, economic, urban developments in the hosting cities. Many countries exploit hosting mega events as a development strategy to face the recent challenges or to keep on their achieved preparations for future investments. On the other side Egypt has a few and limited experiences in hosting mega sports events, while the country has to estimate its abilities to benefit from hosting mega events. As a result, the study includes three experiences of three different countries to persuade the motivations and benefits of hosting. The research raises a question about of the ability of setting a comprehensive plan for hosting mega sports events in Egyptian cities, and how can it be such a developing tool to raise the efficiency of existing urban and include the new cities, in light of the new national urban development vision. Through the research, comparative study will be viewed to estimate the ability of Egyptian cities for hosting. This study has two types of comparison old cities and new cities divided by their regions. This evaluation consequence leads to question about the importance of cities selection in the national plan of hosting. The research aims to set a system for selecting and arranging the preference for cities and suitability for hosting, according to hosting motivations.
