Abstract

Abstract : 1. Introduction : The construction industry is a complex environment and faces massive challenges due to the huge construction development and Stakeholder management practices, where collaboration and coordination among stakeholders are necessary, especially on Mega-construction Projects (MCPs). BIM-based Stakeholder management (BbSM) is considered as a synergy between Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Stakeholder management (SM) goals, and it can be considered an emerging trend in the construction industry (CI). To the best of the researcher’s knowledge, this is the first research study on the topic of “ BIM and stakeholder management synergy ” that supports a theory with real-world data. It makes this research a starting point for other researchers. 2. Research objective: This study aims to develop BIM-based stakeholder management (BbSM) framework by the cloud-based support system. Hence, this is to integrate BIM and SM practices in the construction industry (CI) to improve and enhance the overall implementation of SM along projects life cycle. Also, the scope of study principally concentrates on developing mega construction projects (MCPs). 3. Methodology : This research has adopted a mix-methods approach. Both survey and case study research techniques were used to collect the required data by focusing on mega construction projects. Collecting data from different sources using multiple inquiry techniques provides consistency and can potentially lessen probable bias related to some data collection strategies. 4. Results : a conceptual BIM framework was developed as an effective tool for evaluating the SM performance of MCPs using a cloud-based system. The developed framework was validated using expert questionnaire surveys as well. The research study contributes to existing knowledge and practice by providing the salient and key critical success factors and drivers – that influence and facilitate BIM and SM practices in the construction industry (CI). Also, it can form a sound basis for developing an efficient and well-informed decision-making process by government departments, agencies, and other key construction stakeholders. The innovation of this study is to explore the BIM-SM synergy, hence bridging the research gap in this area.
