Abstract

Designing an Educational Booklet about Infection Prevention and Control Measures in Emergencies for Nursing staffDissertation Abstract Introduction : The risk is very high in emergency situations because nursing staff are focus on save patients’ life at first neglecting the risk of infection transmission; the risk is very low if they follow infection prevention, and control principles. Aim : This study aimed to design an educational booklet about infection prevention, and control measures in emergencies for nursing staff. Method: This had done through a hybrid study design: that combined a cross sectional study design, and Delpi, had carried out in all departments belonged to Mansoura Health Insurance Hospital, affiliated to Ministry of Health, and Population, on a convenience sample included all on job nursing staff (400), and a judgmental sample included 15 experts in the felid of education, infection prevention, and control, and emergency health services to evaluate the designed booklet. Tools of data collection: four tools to assess nursing staff’s socio-demographic, and occupational characteristics, as well their knowledge, practice, and attitude about infection prevention, and control measures in emergencies, in addition to a tool to evaluate the designed educational booklet. Setting: Mansoura Health Insurance Hospital, affiliated to Ministry of Health, and Population, Results: Results illustrated that 94.5%, and 100% of nursing staff had poor score level of knowledge, and improper practice regarding infection prevention and control measures in emergencies respectively with total attitude score of 39.55 (5.54); all fifteen experts had consensuses to all elements of evaluation of the designed educational booklet in second Delpi’s round. Conclusion& Recommendations: It was concluded that; most of nursing staff had poor score level of knowledge, and all had improper practice, declared negative attitude more than positive one; relate to infection prevention, and control measures in emergencies; fifteen nursing staff had consensuses to the majority of the evaluation’s elements of the designed educational booklet. Finally, it is recommended to adopt, as well available of the designed educational booklet to nursing staff in their work settings, and on job training programs to nursing staff on infection prevention, and control in emergencies.Keywords: Booklet, Emergencies, Infection prevention and control, Nurses.
