Abstract

”This study aims to identify the perceptions of both (bachelor/postgraduate) students, as well as faculty members and their assistants about hotel education for sustainable development, and to conduct an analysis of the internal and external environment (SWOT) to assess the department’s readiness to achieve sustainable development and to develop strategies to facilitate the implementation of Hotel Education for Sustainable Development. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire form was adopted and distributed to (120 undergraduate students, 50 graduate students, 11 faculty members and their assistants). Only (116 undergraduate students, 47 postgraduate students, 11 staff members in the department) They were suitable for statistical analysis, and the field study for this research was conducted during the academic year 2020/2021. During the period from November 2020 to April 2021.The questionnaire consisted of three parts: the first part on Personal data for respondents and objective data, the second was divided into five dimensions (30 statements), and the third included strengths, weaknesses and suggestions for improvement. The collected data was processed through the SPSS V.26 program. The results concluded that there is a neutral perception towards the concept of hotel education for sustainable development. The results also concluded that there are (4) main strategic alternatives that can be applied in order to achieve sustainable development, which are as follows: treatment strategy, integration strategy, • Diversity Strategy and excellence strategy. Some of main recommendations were: Suggested Recommendations to Enhance Strengths and Take Advantage of External Opportunities (The Integration Strategy)• Linking the vision, mission, and goals of the college and its counterparts to the university, so that the college adopts the vision of 2030 for sustainable development. • Benefiting from the grants offered by Arab and foreign countries and bodies for the exchange of students and faculty members to increase efficiency and activate the exchange of cultures in order to achieve the social and cultural dimension of sustainable development in hotel education.Suggested Recommendations to Enhance Strengths and Avoid External Threats/ (Excellence/Discrimination Strategy):• Urging investors to participate in supporting the educational process, employment, and training for the department’s students in light of periods of economic crises and widespread epidemics.• Activating the partnership between the department and some partners and institutions to ensure the continuous relationship to achieve the social and economic dimension of sustainable development. Suggested Recommendations to Overcome Weaknesses and Take Advantage of Opportunities / (Treatment Strategy):• Increasing the number of faculty members and their assistants in the department to reduce the burdens on the current members and improve the quality of the educational process in order to achieve the cultural goal of sustainable development.• Exploitation of the educational kitchen and the educational restaurant by appointing a chef and a service art teacher on a permanent basis in the college to ensure the sustainability of the training process for students to raise their practical efficiency as a cultural aspect of sustainable development. Suggested Recommendations to Overcome Weaknesses and Avoid Threats (Diversity Strategy): • Establishing a specialized professional advisory council within the Hotel Studies Department to present all developments related to graduation projects and scientific theses related to sustainable development to promote them to the labor market.• Conducting an integrated feasibility study to be submitted to institutions that support sustainability in education with the aim of financing the educational aspect and increasing the department’s financial resources.
