Abstract Objective: To evaluate the effect of transplantation of gold nanoparticles with or without bone marrow stem cells in regeneration of surgically induced tongue defect in albino rats. The tongue is a mobile muscular structure participates in the functions of speech and swallowing. The ultimate goal of tongue reconstruction is to restore the integrity of the tongue while preserve its critical functions (i.e., articulation, mastication, and deglutition) and minimize the morbidity profile of a selected reconstructive technique Results: group IV that was treated with Gold nanoparticles in conjugation with Bone Marrow Stem cells showed significantly accelerated wound healing compared to the other groups. Histological and immunohistochemical results indicated that group IV was more effective in epithelial proliferation with obvious anti-inflammatory effect. Conclusions: The drastically increase in wound healing process after treatment with Gold nanoparticles in conjugation with Bone Marrow Stem cells emphasized their synergetic effect on Bone Marrow Stem cells. The obtained results in the field of applied nanotechnology will extends to regenerative medicine and provide a new horizon for application of Gold nanoparticles in the field of wound healing. |
