Abstract

”The present thesis includes preparation, characterization, and evaluation of the structural changes of the prepared samples. Thesis concern Structural properties and preparation of pure polymer (Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)) containing gradient concentrations of cadmium selenide quantum dots (CdSe QDs) dopant were synthesized via solution casting technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed to test the physical and chemical characteristics of samples, while ultraviolet-visible (UV/Vis) was used to study optical properties, Transmission electron microscope (TEM) offers valuable information on the structure of the sample, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for surface nature and Photoluminous analysis (PL). The final test is a very important role in the antibacterial activity and biochemical application. FTIR spectra of samples with CdSe QDs show the maintenance of characteristic vibrational band with a marginal variation in both intensity and position related to the increase in dopant concentration., UV/Vis. spectra of polymer with CdSe quantum dots verified good information about optical properties, XRD diffractograms reveals the presence of sharp diffraction peaks located at 2Ө angles 23.9, 25.3, 27.0, 42.0, 45.8, and 49.8 corresponding to (100), (002), (101), (110), (103), and (112) planes of hexagonal structure with (a = 4.299 Å and c = 7.010 Å) and in agreement with that of (JCPDS) CAS No. 08–0459 that indicates compatibility with the FTIR spectrum of polymer with CdSe quantum dots, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicates that the morphology of synthesized biocomposites is critically affected by addition by addition of CdSe QDs. PL exhibits well-separated dual emission bands in organic solvents, they’re found to has more intensity and stability than traditional fluorescence dye. Antibacterial capacity evaluated against two gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis), two gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeuroginosa), and anti-fungal activities test against one fungus (Candida albicans) which results show the different inhibition zone related to increasing concentration of CdSe QDs and type of bacteria under investigation. Evaluation of the activity index % was also studied.”
