Abstract

”Impact of water deficit on productivity of some wheat varieties and some water relations in the North Nile Delta Region Lysimeters dimensions (80 cm in width and 80 cm in length) investigation was conducted at Sakha Agricultural Research Station, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, during the two successive winter growing seasons 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 to investigate, the effect of water deficit conditions on yield, some yield attributes, and some water relations. A split plot design was used in this present study, where, the main plots were randomly assigned by irrigation treatments which were I1: irrigation by traditional practice as performed by farmers in the studied area, I2 : irrigation by 90% from water requirements, I3 : irrigation by 80% from water requirements and I4 : irrigation by 70% from water requirements. While sub main plots were randomly assigned by wheat varieties which were V1 : Sids -14, V2 : Giza171, V3: Gemaza12 and V4 : Misr 2. The main results can be summarized as follows. 1. Effect of irrigation treatments and some wheat varieties on growth parameters, yield and its components during both growing seasons. The results showed that the highest values of plant height and yield and its components were recorded with irrigation treatment of I3 compared to irrigation treatments of I1, I2, and I4 during both studied growing seasons. Concerning wheat verities, the highest values were recorded with wheat variety of V4 (Masr 2). Regarding, the interaction among irrigation treatments and wheat varieties, data showed no significant effect for the interaction among irrigation treatment and varieties, but the highest values were recorded with combined treatment of I3V4 during the two growing seasons. Concerning grain yield (ton/ fed), its values under irrigation treatment of I3 were 3.69 and 3.00 ton/ fed during the first and second growing seasons, respectively. 2. Effect of irrigation treatments and some wheat varieties on some water relations during both growing seasons. 2.1. Seasonal amount of applied water The results showed that the highest values were recorded under irrigation treatment I1 (Traditional irrigation like practice by local farmers in the studied region) showed the maximum quantity with mean values of 2100 m3/fed in two growing seasons, respectively. On the other hand, the lowest values were recorded under irrigation treatment I4, which exposed to water stress during the season and received the lowest number of watering’s with overall mean values through the two seasons (1470m3/fed.) in the first and second growing seasons, respectively. 2.2. Productivity of irrigation water (PIW) The results showed that the highest values were recorded under irrigation treatment I4 and the values are 2.21 and 1.71 kg/ m3 in the first and second growing seasons, respectively. The results showed that the highest values were recorded under wheat variety V4 comparing with other studied wheat varieties and the values are 2.00 and 1.60 kg/ m3in the first and second growing seasons, respectively. 3. Effect of irrigation treatments and some wheat varieties on leaf area and chlorophyll content in the two growing seasons : 3.1. Leaf area (cm2) : The results showed that the highest mean values were recorded under irrigation treatment I3 and the highest values are 47.47 as mean value of both seasons. The results showed that the highest mean values were recorded under wheat variety V2 comparing with other studied wheat varieties and the value is 50.55 cm2 as mean value of both seasons. 3.2. Chlorophyll content (mg g-1 FW) : The results showed that the highest mean values were recorded under irrigation treatment I1, while the results showed that the highest mean values was recorded under wheat variety V3. CONCLUSION It can be concluded that verity of Misr 2 is the proper wheat genotype to be cultivated under drought circumstances of this trial and maybe at similar locations as well.
